MARGO’s R&D Centre has well equipped laboratories for Natural Products Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Microbiology, Entomology and Crop-physiology. R&D facility also include polyhouses and captive farms for carrying out field trials.   Key equipment at Margo’s R&D include - Analytical HPLC, Preparative HPLC, GC, UV-VIS Spectrophotometer, Stereo Binocular Microscope, Karl Fischer, Flame Photometer, Spray Drier, Fermenter, Rotary Evaporator, Orbital Incubator shaker, Centrifuges, Deep freezer, Autoclaves, Light chambers and Plant Growth Chamber.

New bioassays have been developed to evaluate phytohormone like activity in Biostimulants. These bioassays include – Cucumber/Radish cotyledon expansion bioassay, Cucumber Hypocotyl Elongation Bioassay, Cucumber root initiation and elongation bioassay etc.

R&D team is undertaking multidisciplinary research with the objective of providing innovative and eco-friendly products/solutions as per customer needs for safe and sustainable agriculture. R&D efforts are focussed on development of new Biopesticides, Biostimulants, Biocontrol agents and Biofertilizers, enhancing existing products and improving current processes. R&D also involves in continuous monitoring and maintenance of product quality, by regularly cross-checking with QC teams to ensure the highest standards. 

In 2025, PJ Margo have partnered with CABI Bio protection portal.

The field performance of Margo products is studied in collaboration with Agriculture Universities and Central Research Institutes. More than 100 field trials were conducted for Biostimulants, Biopesticides and Biocontrol agents.

At Margo R&D field facility, field trials are conducted in all the three cropping seasons, on an average 15 to 20 field trials are conducted to study the field performance of Margo products.

PJ Margo’s R&D Centre can support external customers in the following areas:

1. Neem Products – 
   • Azadirachtin Analysis as per NABL protocols for Neem Formulations and technical material, Neem Oil and Neem Cake.
   • Reference Standards - Validated Azadirachtin Standard with traceability as per International standards for Azadirachtin-A (Min. 95% purity), Azadirachtin-B (Min. 95% purity) and Azadirachtin A+B (Min. 90% purity). 
   • Detection of adulterants in Neem oil
2. Biostimulants
   • Physico-chemical property analysis - As per NABL protocols and scope
   • Cytokinin type of activity, Auxin type of activity, Gibberellins type of activity
3. Bioefficacy studies 
   • Insecticidal activity of pesticides. 
4. Greenhouse studies
   • Plant growth promotion activity, abiotic stress tolerance activity
5. Field studies
   • Field trial of Agrochemicals on vegetable crops such as potato, tomato, chillies, Brinjal, cabbage, Capsicum, Groundnut etc.
